THE BAMBOO AND THE FERN SCHOOL!
Amiddle-aged man who had gone through terrible and extremely difficult times wrote this:
“One day, I decided to quit my job, my relationships, my spirituality (church)... I even wanted to quit my life next (SUICIDE). I went to the woods to have one last talk with God. “God”, I said, “Can you give me one good reason not to quit?” His answer surprised me:
“Look around’He said, “Do you see the fern and the bamboo?” “Yes”, I replied “When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took good care of them. I gave them light and I gave them water! The fern quickly grew up from the earth with brilliant green leaves, but nothing came from the bamboo seed, yet I did not quit on the bambo seed. In the second year, the fern grew more and yet nothing came from the bamboo seed. In the third and fourth years, there was still nothing from the bamboo tree, yet I did not quit. Then in the fifth year, a tiny sprout emerged from the earth! Compared to the fern it was seemingly small and insignificant, but just 6 months later, the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall; it had spent five years growing roots. Don’t you know my child that all this time you have been struggling, you have been growing roots?” What a great devotional story! God did not quit on the bamboo and He will not quit on you. You are not a failure! Stop despising yourself and stop comparing yourself to others because your season will come. Like Your Father God, You Must Call The Things That Be Not As Though They Were! Lay hands on yourself and prophesy on your future DAILY! Like the bamboo, you will overtake those ahead of you now, if you just determine to wait on the Lord.
No trial seems pleasant now, but it is for your glorious good in the end. Hear Henry Thoreau: “If we will be quiet and ready enough, we shall find compensation in every disappointment.”
Never forget Hugh Miller:
“Problems are only opportunities with thorns on them.” Trust God! Resist sorrow! Laugh even in the warfront! Your end will be a wonder to behold. Amen! Pray now!
